Art Events 2008/09

The 2008/09 school year have been full of special events...and there are more to come!
We had a great visit with Chicago artist Jill Lanza in January. She was our guest artist for 5 days and was able to meet all students.

Fourth and fifth graders learned about Mrs. Lanza’s art installations, collages and artist books. She shared her collage techniques and what inspires the subject matter of her art. Students were introduced to photo transfer techniques and began creating their own collages.

Kindergarten –3rd grade students had a different experience with Mrs. Lanza…papermaking, a wet but fun art form! Mrs. Lanza brought us cotton paper pulp in bright colors. She showed students how to make pulp in shapes such as, stars, hearts and circles. Each student made their own piece of paper in their favorite color and shape.

It was a fun five days with Mrs. Lanza. She was very impressed by our B.E. artists and enjoyed her visit to our school. If your child would like to see more of Mrs. Lanza’s art check out her website, www.jilllanza.com.

This was an awesome opportunity for students to interact with and have hands on learning experience with a working artist.

In February the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center is hosted an Elmbrook Elementary Art Show. Brookfield Elementary featured 1st Grade student artwork at the show! I was so proud to showcase our awesome 1st grade artists.

The 2009 Barnes & Noble art show will feature art from Dixon, Swanson, & Brookfield Elementary. More details to come!
